Mylar bags protect your food from light, air oxidation, liquid, moisture, insects, odour, vapour and Xray.
They can withstand temperatures from -18 degrees celsius up to 100 degrees celsius and can be used for long term food storage of 20 years or more!
Use the bags for cold storage or to reheat a meal. Dry food, dehydrated food and freeze dried food all store well in mylar bags.
Mylar bags are 3 layers thick with aluminium in the middle layer. They are BPA free, extremely strong, puncture resistant yet feel thin and flexible. They are a good barrier from air, moisture, mould, vapour, odours and light.
Our mylar bags have been tested for food safety and comply with FDA food grade safety standards and are also BPA free. 4.5 Mil each side and made with three layers, comprising PET on the outside for strength, aluminium in the middle and PE on the inside enabling the bag to be sealed.
 Easy to open with a tear tab, a zip top for multiple closing and reopening. If wanting to reuse more than once the bag will become shorter but can be resealed. You will just loose the zip closure.

Use an oxygen absorber inside your bag adding it just before sealing. Push the air out of the bag and seal it using a heat sealer (preferred method), a vacuum sealer on high setting (seal function) or even an iron or hair straightener!
Here is a list of our Mylar Bag sizes and an approximate volume for each bag size allowing for the lost space at the top seal.
When working out how many oxygen absorbers needed in a bag remember to take into account the amount of food/product inside the bag. The space left inside the bag contains the amount of oxygen to be removed. Or you could simply just use an oxygen absorber the size for the total volume of the bag. This way the calculation is easy and it is always better to have a bigger amount of oxygen absorption than needed.
Stand Up Pouch Bag 10cm x 15cm x 5cm= ½ Pint / 0.6 Litres
Stand UP Pouch Bag 15cm x 25cm x 5cm 1 Quart / 1.5 Litres
Stand UP Pouch Bag 20cm x 30cm x 5cm / 2.5 Litres
Stand Up Pouch Bag 25cm x 35cm x 5cm 1 Gallon / 3.5 Litres
Stand UP Pouch Bag 30cm x 40cm x 5cm / 4.8 Litres
When using oxygen absorbers they will remove 21% of the air inside the bag or container. This is because the absorbers only remove the oxygen (O2) which is about 21% of air.The general formula for cubic centremetre of oxygen absorption required is:
Container volume – food volume = residual air volume
Residual air volume x 0.21 (because air is 21% oxygen) = oxygen absorber size needed
It is okay to exceed the size of oxygen absorber needed and its better to err on the safe side and use more.
Conversions:
1cc = 1ml
1000ml = 1 litre
3.78 litres = 1 gallon
Our Oxygen Absorbers are made by Dorency. They contain Iron Powder and have an oxygen absorption capacity 3 times more than the cc rating.
NOTE: Not all dried food converts from litres to the same amount of grams. Conversion depends on food density as various foods have different density. If you google search how to convert dried food from litres to grams for storage this will give you an idea.
It is important to have more oxygen absorption than not quite or only just enough to make sure your food is protected. You dont want to come back later to find its not worked properly and you have wasted your time, energy, money and food! Always err on having more than less is a good way to do it.
Here is a chart with some details:
